I’ve had this blog for two years now. It has challenged my photography and writing in many ways, which is what I had hoped for.
However, I think the time has come for it to end, since I am moving on to other projects. Plus, within the year, my husband and I will be moving from Wellsboro (not sure where to yet, where he gets accepted into grad school will determine that) so “Wellsboro” wanderlust will not be able to continue. Perhaps I’ll start a new blog somewhere down the road again, but time will tell.
I am trying to start my own photography business. As some readers know, I have gotten some freelance photography work in the past few months, and I have enjoyed it immensely. I want to pursue that.
So, followers, fear not. If you want to still “follow” me, please do so on Facebook. The link to my photography page is: http://www.facebook.com/RHazenPhotography. Hope to see your support there!
Thanks everyone for a great two years!
My family has held NY Giants season tickets for over 50 years. My grandpa had them, then they got passed on to my Uncle. I’ve been to a few games when I was a kid and still lived in NJ, but it’s gotten harder since moving away to Pennsylvania, especially since most of the games are too late on a Sunday.
My Uncle Paul called unexpectedly on a Friday afternoon and said that he had two extra tickets for both me and Derek. It was very last minute, but we headed out to NJ for the weekend.
This was very special to me because the last time I was at a game was 10 years ago, and a week later, my Grandpa passed away. I am glad for that opportunity to spend time with my Grandpa, and it makes for a good memory. It was even more special because Derek and I could go together.
All in all, it was a great game, even though the Giants lost. They played the undefeated Carolina Panthers, so we kind of figured that they would lose anyway. It ended up being a nail-biter game, and I am glad that it wasn’t a shut out.
Derek and I celebrated our 4th anniversary on Thursday. We lucked out because, for us, it was our last day of finals. It ended up being a double celebration, of our anniversary, and because we are now 75 percent done with our second degree!
We decided to have dinner at the Log Cabin Inn, which is in Gaines, about 20 minutes west of Wellsboro. I used to pass it every day on my way to work when I worked in Potter County, and always wanted to go. Plus the reviews online were all great.
It did not disappoint! The inside was quaint and cozy, and all decorated for Christmas. There were plenty of things to choose from on the menu, and there was a bonus soup and salad bar that was included for everyone.
Last weekend I took photos for a family.
The woman that I took photos of and her family in October contacted me and she said that a friend of hers was interested in getting photos done. I was happy that it spread by word of mouth, like I had been hoping for.
This woman, Kathy, told me that her whole family, kids and grandkids were together for the holidays, and that was the reason why she wanted photos. I am glad that I was able to provide her with some nice memories!
Dickens of a Christmas is Wellsboro’s Christmas festival. It is held the first Saturday of December. Community members and vendors dress up in Victorian style, and everyone has a good time! There are chances to hear carolers, brass bands, and go shopping for unique gifts!
Here are some pictures from the event.
A note: My goal was to focus more on the people of Dickens and I think I succeeded!
My mom and dad and I stumbled upon the Brick House Cafe and Deli on Saturday in Galeton. Sad to say that I passed by this every day on my way to work when I worked in Potter County for a year, but I never thought to go inside.
It was cold outside and we were in the mood for a hot chocolate, and this place fit the bill. When we walked inside it was apparent right away that I had missed out on something.
They have a large menu, and the prices are inexpensive. There were a ton of baked goods, soups, sandwiches and salads. The best thing about this place is the decor. It was vintage and all random.
Hope to try to come here again now that I know about it.
We decided to shop locally in Galeton, the next town over from Wellsboro, for Small Business Saturday. Our favorite store in Galeton is Heart’s Desire. It is a large, historic two story store that used to be a hardware store. The first time we shopped there, we noticed the rows and rows of cubicle like shelving, and so we asked the owner. He said it was where all of the small items like nuts and bolts were kept.
The bottom level of the store has a wide arrangement of items, like candy, jewelry, handmade scarves, maple syrup and candles. The upper part of the store holds all sorts of vintage items.
I found these two photos that my dad took of me and I had to laugh. I look like I am bent like a pretzel in the first one, and I am nearly laying on the ground in the second one.
These were taken in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, on the bank of the Shenandoah River. I remember thinking that it was really interesting that there were so many shells in a river.
The things a photographer will do to get the right shot!
